ALBITA AND FORMER PRESIDENT FLORES JOIN EVENT TO HONOR MARTHA BEATRIZ ROQUE.
The outstanding Cuban singer Albita and former Salvadoran President Licentiate Francisco Flores will be the main participants in a ceremony to bestow upon Cuban opposition leader Martha Beatriz Roque and former President Flores himself the awards of Champions of Liberty for the year 2006. The ceremony will take place Saturday, April 29 of 2006 at one pm, in the Sheraton Hotel (former Radisson) at 711 N.W. 72nd Avenue, in Miami. This award is granted every year to personalities that promote respect for freedom, democracy and human rights all over the world. The award encompass a plaque stating the merits of the honoree and a financial contribution of $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) to support the work of the recipient. President Flores has donated his portion of the financial award to the Assembly for the Promotion of Civil Society in Cuba. Last year the award was given to Dr. Oscar ElĂas Biscet, President of the Lawton Foundation for Human Rights.
