THE DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT CALLS FOR PICKETTING THE BAHAMIAN CONSULATE GENERAL

Miami, February 9, 2006 - The Democracy Movement has called for picketing in front of the Bahamas Consulate General, located in 25 SE 2nd Avenue, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM (Lunch hour), to protest the brutal treatment of migrants by Bahamian authorities and the beating, arrests and confiscation of their cameras and videos, against TV reporters from Univision and Telemundo. The pickets demand a thorough investigation on the side of the Bahamian Government of the events that took place on Tuesday in Nassau, as well as the already well documented and well known abuses against Haitian, Cubans and others detained in the Bahamas due to immigration reasons. Permits have been secured from Miami Police For additional information, please call 305-264-7200.
