Dear Mr. Peterson:
I was walking up St. George Street with friends on Saturday night when a revolting image lept at us from your store window. The revolting image of one of the world's most accomplished mass murderers.
I'm speaking of the bag in your display window bearing the image of Ché Guevara.
Perhaps you are not familiar with Guevara's bloody accomplishments and lust for violence. For instance this quote - "Crazy with fury I will stain my rifle red while slaughtering any enemy that falls in my hands! My nostrils dilate while savoring the acrid odor of gunpowder and blood. With the deaths of my enemies I prepare my being for the sacred fight and join the triumphant proletariat with a bestial howl! Hatred as an element of struggle; unbending hatred for the enemy, which pushes a human being beyond his
natural limitations, making him into an effective, violent, selective, and cold-blooded killing machine. This is what our soldiers must become … "
Ché's own biographers give him credit for ordering the murders of 4,000 people. There is evidence he personally, by his own hand, murdered almost 200. All took place without fair trials or due process of law. The number of people killed during combat in his many "wars of revolution" in Africa and Latin America goes uncounted.
How can you offer for sale something that pays homage to such a man? Would you put on display a tote bag portraying Hitler?
