Nukes For Venezuela?
Monday, May 23, 2005   By: Juan Paxety

Is hugo getting nukes? Indiadaily.com publishes this story:

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on May 22 that Venezuela will launch a national nuclear development program "for peaceful purposes, not to make bombs." Chavez said Venezuela's nuclear program will be jointly developed with other Latin American countries, Europe and Iran. Chavez said Argentina plans to restart its nuclear development program, and that Mexico plans on starting a nuclear program. He did not mention the European countries that might cooperate with Venezuela's nuclear ambitions.

The article goes on to point out that everyone says they are getting nuclear power for peaceful purposes.  Just look at North Korea and Iran.

hugo's philosophical father fidel, we know, wanted to launch nukes at the U.S. back in 1962.  He so frightened Nikita Khrushchev that the Soviet dictator agreed to remove the nukes from fidel's worker's paradise.

Update - Also reporting hugo's interest in nukes are Forbes, The San Diego Union Tribune, and The Scotsman. CNN International also shows some interest.

Update - Robert at The 26th Parallel has more.
