Rice Cookers To Cuba's Women
Wednesday, March 09, 2005   By: Juan Paxety

A gift from fidel

Reuters reports fidel is now allowing Cuban women to have rice cookers.  castro made the announcement on International Women's Day.  He says 100,000 of the cookers will be available at subsidized prices.

The electric rice cooker was among the appliances banned a decade ago because Cuba lacked sufficient electricity to power them.

Think about that - particularly you folks at the Black Bloggers forum.  Not enough electricity to power an electric rice cooker.  Subsidized rice cookers which cost less than $20 from Target.

Update - for a snarky look at this story, read the red Star Tribune's version.
