Statement of Violation of Human Rights
Date of Occurrence: 21st and 22nd of September, 2006
Place: Meeting place of the group “Movimiento Independiente Opción Alternativa”, in Pedro Betancourt, Matanzas, Cuba
Victims: Members of the group “Movimiento Independiente Opción Alternativa”.
On the 21st and 22 of September, members of the group “Movimiento Independiente Opcion Alternativa” fell victim to a mob of communist protestors who were repudiating a meeting between this said group and the groups Frente Femenino Martha Abreu de Villa Clara, and Frente Femenino del Movimiento Independiente Opción Alternativa.
Oscar Sánchez Madan, a noted independent reporter and spokesperson for Movimiento Independiente Opción Alternativa, was savagely beaten and left with bruises on his face.
Many Cuban exiled organizations have launched a campaign in support of this human rights organization that has once again fallen under attack by Castro´s regime, and at the same time make a calling to the national public opinion, governments, and religious organizations to initiate an international petition against the Cuban government for consistent violations of human rights.
